As of today, April 11, 2025, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has implemented a new registration requirement for certain foreign nationals, including some Canadian visitors. This mandate requires eligible individuals to complete Form G-325R, Biographic Information (Registration), if they plan to stay in the United States for 30 days or more.
Who Must Register?
Canadian citizens entering the U.S. at land ports of entry who are not issued a Form I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record) and intend to stay for 30 days or longer are required to register using Form G-325R. This form collects biographic information and, in some cases, may necessitate a biometrics appointment.
Who Is Exempt?
Canadian visitors who receive a Form I-94 upon entry, typically those entering by air or sea, are generally considered already registered and are exempt from this requirement. Additionally, individuals under the age of 14 are not required to provide biometrics but parents and guardians must ensure that they are registered.
